Meta’s ad sales on Instagram and Facebook drove a 22% revenue increase to $39 billion in the quarter ending June, surpassing last year’s figures. Despite substantial investments in AI projects, profit skyrocketed to nearly $13.5 billion.
However, Meta also agreed to a $1.4 billion settlement with Texas, resolving allegations of improper user data collection related to facial recognition technology. This settlement marks the largest single-state agreement of its kind.
The lawsuit claimed that Meta used facial recognition technology without users’ consent, violating Texas’ biometric data laws. Meta will pay the settlement amount over five years, with an initial payment of $500 million due soon.
This financial period showcases Meta’s advertising success, significant investments in AI, and legal resolution. While the company faces challenges, its financial performance and commitment to resolving legal issues demonstrate its resilience.
