Former host of Nhyira FM’s Obra Show, Mama Effe Amanor, has paid the outstanding hospital bills of several vulnerable mothers to facilitate their discharge from the Living Waters Hospital and Ejisu Government Hospital in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The gesture forms part of her corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society. She also used the occasion to urge men to prioritise the welfare of their wives, particularly during pregnancy and childbirth.
Speaking to the media after visiting the two health facilities, Mama Effe said many maternity wards remain congested because some mothers who have safely delivered are unable to pay their medical bills, forcing them to stay in the hospital longer than necessary and occupy limited bed space.
She explained that her intervention was intended to ease the burden on both the affected families and the health facilities by paying the bills of some mothers to enable them to return home.
“Children are gifts from God, and we must never take their lives or the lives of their mothers for granted. It saddens and breaks my heart to see women remain in hospital after giving birth simply because they cannot afford to pay their medical bills,” she said.
Mama Effe attributed many such cases to family breakdowns and the neglect of women by irresponsible partners.
She therefore appealed to men to stand by their wives during childbirth, regardless of their financial circumstances.
“As a man, no matter the challenges you are facing, never abandon your wife in the hospital after she has given birth. Support her because the child is a blessing from God,” she stated.
The beneficiary mothers expressed profound gratitude to Mama Effe for the timely intervention.
According to them, without her support, they had no idea when they would have been able to settle their bills and return home with their babies.
“God bless you, Mama Effe; we are very grateful and happy today in our lives,” a mother praised her.
