Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has launched a special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine in honour of the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
The publication, dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of Dr Omane Boamah, highlights his tenure at the Ministry of Defence, his leadership style, reforms, and contributions towards strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking at a ceremony to unveil a cenotaph in memory of the late minister, Dr Ato Forson said the commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine would serve as a resource for future military leaders, public servants, researchers, and Ghanaians seeking to understand the values that guided Dr Omane Boamah’s public service.
He added that the greatest tribute to the late minister would not only be the cenotaph or publication but the collective commitment to uphold the principles he represented — integrity, humility, professionalism, accountability, and service above self.
“Your Excellency, with profound respect and immense pride, I hereby declare the special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine, dedicated to the enduring legacy of the late Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, duly launched,” he said.
Dr Ato Forson described the occasion as more than a memorial event, saying it represented a national affirmation of a life defined by service, integrity, and patriotism.
He said Dr Omane Boamah’s leadership was marked by humility, professionalism, and a commitment to national development.
“The true measure of a public officer is not the position one occupies, but the lasting impact one leaves on the nation,” Dr Ato Forson said.
According to him, the late Defence Minister championed professionalism, discipline, and accountability while advancing reforms aimed at improving the operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces.
He also highlighted Dr Omane Boamah’s advocacy for veterans and his efforts to strengthen collaboration between military and civilian institutions in the interest of national security.
The Ministry of Defence also unveiled a cenotaph in Dr Omane Boamah’s memory, constructed through the support of FG Global Company Limited at no cost to the state.
