The 26 million arrival from Nordsjlland was one of seven Coventry players making their Premier League debuts.Fellow Ghanaian Brandon Thomas-Asante, instrumental in Coventry’s promotion with 13 goals and four assists last season, started in a three-man attack alongside Ellis Simms and Loum Tchaouna.Arsenal were in complete control from the first whistle. Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, tapping in after a low cross from Riccardo Calafiori. Bukayo Saka doubled the lead just seven minutes later, finishing from close range after a cross was diverted into his path by Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.The Gunners added a third just after half-time, with Martin Odegaard scoring in the 49th minute.Statistics from the first half painted a picture of Arsenal’s dominance. The Gunners had 23 touches in the Coventry box, while the visitors failed to register a single touch in their opponents’ penalty area. Coventry also failed to make a tackle in the first 45 minutes.For Yirenkyi, the night was a baptism of fire. He picked up a yellow card for a foul on Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and was also cautioned for another clumsy challenge. Thomas-Asante had a penalty appeal turned down in the second half.Despite the heavy defeat, both Ghanaian players now have their Premier League debuts under their belts and will look to learn from the experience as Coventry aim to establish themselves in the top flight.
