Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan has set her sights on recording more clean sheets after Ghana opened their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Cape Verde.
Konlan produced a composed performance between the posts as Ghana kept the tournament debutants at bay to secure all three points in their Group D opener in Morocco.
Goals from Doris Boaduwaa and an own goal by Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira ensured the Black Queens made the ideal start to the tournament while boosting their hopes of reaching the semi-finals and qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Although pleased with the result, Konlan believes the team must build on the performance as they prepare for a tougher challenge against Cameroon.
“Getting the first three points is the goal every team wants, so getting these three points is really great, and we are happy about that. Yeah, we are excited. I’m excited as well.
“We are happy, and we are looking forward to keeping more clean sheets.”
The victory maintained Ghana’s unbeaten record against WAFCON debutants and erased memories of their opening defeat at the previous edition.
Coach Kim Lars Bjrkegren’s side now turn their attention to Cameroon on August 2, knowing another solid defensive display could put them in a commanding position to reach the knockout rounds.
Konlan will be hoping to extend Ghana’s shutout streak as the Black Queens continue their pursuit of continental success in Morocco.
