The Weight of the Oscars: Jimmy Kimmel’s Honest Reason for Stepping Down

Date:

Jimmy Kimmel has revealed why he declined the opportunity to host the Academy Awards for a fifth time. In a recent podcast conversation, Kimmel explained that hosting the Oscars is a massive undertaking that requires his undivided attention, leaving his late-night show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” to suffer as a result.

Kimmel admitted that he struggles with balancing tasks and found that hosting the Oscars three years in a row was too much to handle. He noted that when he’s focused on the Oscars, he’s less focused on his show, and vice versa. Additionally, Kimmel’s writers work on both the Oscars and his late-night show, causing distractions and splitting their attention.

Kimmel described hosting the Oscars as a “tough spot to be in,” citing the immense workload and pressure to deliver a successful show. He also acknowledged that many potential hosts decline the opportunity because they know how demanding it is. Despite the challenges, Kimmel reflected on his past experiences hosting the Oscars and acknowledged that it can be a rewarding experience when everything goes well.

With the 97th Academy Awards approaching on March 2, 2025, a host has yet to be announced. Kimmel’s decision highlights the significant time commitment and effort required to host Hollywood’s biggest night, and it will be interesting to see who takes on the challenge.
