Prince Tagoe opposes reports of Carlos Queiroz staying as Black Stars coach

Date:

Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has voiced his opposition to reports suggesting Carlos Queiroz will remain as head coach of the Black Stars after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz was appointed on a short-term contract following the dismissal of Otto Addo and guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament. The Black Stars’ campaign eventually ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the round of 32.

Despite the team’s progress at the tournament, reports indicate the Ghana Football Association is considering retaining the experienced Portuguese tactician as Ghana prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, Tagoe believes keeping Queiroz would be the wrong decision, insisting the coach’s tactical approach does not suit the Black Stars.

“Keeping coach Carlos Queiroz is a waste of time. I am not okay with his tactics. Ghana football is not about defending,” the former Hearts of Oak striker told Adom TV.

The former Black Stars forward, who was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, also questioned the coach’s ability to take the national team to greater heights.

“I don’t think he will take us far,” Tagoe added.

Ghana will now shift attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia as they seek a return to the continental tournament after missing out on the 2025 edition.
