Nathan Opoku banking on Newport experience to hit ground running at Northampton

Date:

Nathan Opoku believes his successful loan spell at Newport County has given him the experience needed to make an immediate impact at Northampton Town. The Ghanaian forward joined Northampton from Leicester City on a three-year deal after spending last season with Newport, where he developed valuable experience of English football.Opoku scored six goals in 16 starts for the Exiles and ended the 2025/26 campaign as the clubs leading scorer, giving him a strong foundation ahead of his move. The 25-year-old is confident that knowledge of the division will help him settle quickly and contribute to Northamptons campaign.I know what League Two is all about. I had a good spell on loan at Newport last season and hopefully I can hit the ground running here. His previous experience could prove particularly useful as Northampton look to benefit from his pace and versatility in attack.Opoku is capable of playing across the forward line and arrives with further confidence after featuring for Leicesters first-team squad during pre-season.He scored during his involvement with Leicester and says he is now fit and ready to play following his summer preparations. His time at Newport also means Opoku already understands the physical demands and competitive nature of League Two, reducing the need for a lengthy adaptation period.
