MAHAMA CAMPAIGN CONDEMNS IEA’S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE ANNOUNCEMENT

Date:

The Mahama 2024 Campaign has strongly condemned the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana’s recent announcement of a presidential debate for the upcoming 2024 elections, citing a lack of engagement and notification with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), one of Ghana’s major political parties.

The IEA’s announcement outlined plans to organize presidential and vice-presidential debates, aiming to promote issues-based elections in Ghana. However, the Mahama campaign disputes the IEA’s authority to organize such events, referencing the Constitution of Ghana.

Joyce Bawah Mogari, spokesperson for Mr. Mahama, expressed disappointment in the IEA’s failure to inform the NDC of their plans, raising concerns about the IEA’s motives and potential bias towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In contrast, the NDC highlights its commitment to engaging with citizens, noting that their presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, have been actively engaging with various sectors of society across the country.

The campaign warns the IEA against misrepresenting the NDC and assures Ghanaians that their commitment to meaningful engagement remains unwavering. The NDC emphasizes its focus on addressing the needs and concerns of the people of Ghana, ensuring that all voices are heard.
