Pape ThiawFormer Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw has served a formal notice on the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) demanding payment of 423,820,300 CFA francs (approximately $745,000).This, he claims, includes unpaid salaries, bonuses, housing allowances, travel expenses, and bonuses related to the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualification.The notice, delivered through his lawyer Matre Guedel Ndiaye on August 11, 2026, invites the federation to settle the amount as soon as possible, failing which legal proceedings could be initiated.Thiaw was dismissed as Senegal head coach following the team’s World Cup round-of-32 exit to Belgium. The federation president Abdoulaye Fall had previously alleged that Thiaw’s relationship with the FSF had broken down after the coach requested a substantial salary increase before the tournament.Thiaw had reportedly demanded a rise from 20 million CFA francs ($35,000) to 50 million CFA francs ($87,000) per month. The sides eventually agreed on 30 million CFA francs for the tournament itself.Thiaw’s dismissal ended a tenure that included winning the 2025 AFCON final, though the title was controversially stripped from Senegal and awarded to Morocco.The FSF has also been facing scrutiny over its management of the team during the World Cup, including recent revelations about unpaid medical staff and players having to fund their own medical care.The federation has been urged to settle the amount quickly. If no agreement is reached, legal proceedings could be initiated, adding to the growing list of controversies surrounding Senegalese football.
