Former OnlyFans model and social media personality Courtney Clenney has pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the fatal stabbing of her Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, in Miami in 2022.
Clenney, who was previously charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, was sentenced to six years in prison, including four years already served, followed by five years of probation.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said the plea agreement was reached in consultation with Obumseli’s family and that Clenney had accepted responsibility for his death. “While nothing can heal the wounds caused on that day in April, I hope today’s guilty plea brings his family a measure of justice too long denied,” she said in a statement.
Obumseli, 27, died after being stabbed in the chest on 3 April 2022. The wound punctured his subclavian artery, according to the Miami-Dade County chief medical examiner. Clenney was arrested in Hawaii on 10 August 2022, several months after the incident, following the issuance of a warrant by Miami-Dade prosecutors.
Clenney’s defence team had previously argued that she acted in self-defence, alleging that Obumseli had been abusive. Prosecutors said the couple had been in an “extremely tempestuous combative” relationship since late 2020, with their apartment building recording numerous incidents involving loud arguments between them. In a statement issued on Monday, Obumseli’s family said the plea closed a legal chapter but did not lessen their grief.
