Ghana winger Fatawu Issahaku has questioned the decision to award Cte dIvoire a penalty during the Black Stars 2-0 defeat in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Bouak.The Leicester City player was adjudged to have fouled Malick Yalcouy inside the penalty area after the Ivorian midfielder went down following a challenge from Issahaku. Franck Kessi subsequently converted the spot-kick to double the hosts advantage.Issahaku, however, insisted that he did not make contact with Yalcouy and said his intention was simply to prevent the midfielder from getting a shot away.Everyone can see what happened on the field, because I was the one who went for the tackle. I didn’t go to like, to, to kick him or anything. I went to like, just so that he can’t shoot. But I don’t know why the referee made that decision and I think, you should do something about that because you can see clearly that I didn’t touch him,” he told 3Sports.”I didn’t even go to do anything. It was just to cover and everything. I don’t know why the referee took penalty, but I have nothing to say,Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz also criticised the decision, describing the penalty as a joke after the match.
