CAF STRIPS SENEGAL OFF THE 2025 AFCON TITLE, DECLARES MOROCCO WINNER

Date:

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has stripped Senegal off the 2025 AFCON title after a protest lodged by silver medallist Morocco was declared successful.

A CAF Appeals Board decision has determined that Senegal’s conduct on that day breached the confederation’s regulations and has handed down the severest of sanctions to the West African nation.

Senegal left the pitch for 15 minutes during the chaotic AFCON final with Morocco on January 18, affecting the course of the match and Morocco’s Atlas Lions’ performance

According to the new ruling, Senegal’s conduct led to the match being officially recorded as a forfeit under Article 84 of CAF regulations.

According to a publication on the website of the confederation, Morocco, which hosted the tournament in December 2025, has been declared the winner as Senegal is declared to have forfeited the final match.

The Senegalese team walked off the field of play during the final game following a string of questionable decisions by the match officials.
