CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Morocco ahead of the opening of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026, as the continent prepares for the start of its flagship women’s football competition.The South African football administrator touched down in Rabat on Saturday, where he was received by Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) General Secretary Tarik Najem.CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu was also present to welcome the CAF President as final preparations gathered pace ahead of the tournament’s opening ceremony and first match.Motsepe’s arrival underscores the Confederation of African Football’s commitment to delivering another successful edition of WAFCON while reinforcing its continued investment in the growth of women’s football across Africa.Morocco is hosting the competition for the second consecutive time, with the tournament bringing together the continent’s top women’s national teams in a celebration of African football.The championship is expected to showcase the rapid progress of the women’s game while providing a platform for emerging talents and established stars to shine on the continental stage.Since taking office as CAF President, Dr Motsepe has repeatedly stressed the importance of developing women’s football, overseeing increased prize money, improved commercial partnerships and greater investment in competitions organised by the continental governing body.The 2026 edition is also expected to attract global attention following CAF’s expansion of its broadcast footprint, with fans across Africa and around the world set to follow the tournament through numerous international television partners.Football dignitaries, government officials, federation representatives and thousands of supporters are expected to attend the opening festivities in Morocco, with millions more watching from across the globe.With Dr Motsepe now in Rabat, the stage is set for the official commencement of WAFCON 2026, as Africa’s best women’s national teams begin their quest for continental glory in what promises to be another landmark edition of the competition.
