Andre Ayew reveals FC Nania role amid GFA presidency reports

Date:

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has revealed that he has been the Chief Executive Officer of FC Nania, the club founded by his father and Ghana football legend Abedi Pele, for the past few years.Ayew made the revelation on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi in Accra on Sunday. For a few years now, I’ve been CEO of FC Nania, Ayew said.Nania currently compete in the Division One League, Ghanas second tier, after being established by Abedi Pele.Ayews involvement with the club comes as reports continue to link him with a possible future role in the administration of Ghana football.According to reports, the former Black Stars captain is considering a bid for the Ghana Football Association presidency and could seek to contest the position in the 2027 elections.Under the GFAs electoral framework, presidential candidates must meet eligibility requirements that include involvement with a GFA member, making Ayews position at Nania potentially relevant to any future ambitions.Asked by Mikel Obi how he would respond if Ghanaians called on him to help fix Ghana football, Ayew said the wishes of the public would be important.First of all, what the masses want is most important. I’ve heard the rumours about people saying I should lead Ghana football, but that’s not what is important; I just want our football to grow, he said. Not tomorrow, but now, Ayew added. The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving Dutch side NAC Breda in the summer and has been spending time in Ghana, where he has continued to train. He has frequently been seen playing in Legon, where Nania usually host their home matches.Ayew could now face a major decision over whether to continue his playing career or begin a new chapter in football administration.By Enoch Fiifi Forson
