Ghanaian-American forward Gyasi Zardes has announced his retirement from professional football after a career that included two MLS Cup triumphs and more than 100 goals in Major League Soccer.The 35-year-old former United States international confirmed his decision on Sunday, bringing the curtain down on a career that spanned more than a decade at club and international level.Its officially time to announce my retirement from professional soccer, Zardes posted on X. Forever grateful for it all.Zardes scored 106 goals in 328 MLS appearances, while he added 14 goals in 68 caps for the United States.His club career included successful spells with the Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew, winning the MLS Cup with both teams.He lifted the trophy with the Galaxy in 2014 before repeating the feat with Columbus in 2020. He was also named an MLS All-Star in 2015 and earned the leagues Comeback Player of the Year award in 2018.Zardes also represented Colorado Rapids and Austin FC during his MLS career, with his professional journey spanning from 2013 to 2024.At international level, he helped the United States win the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2017 and 2021.Born in the United States and of Ghanaian descent, Zardes leaves the game as one of the more accomplished forwards of his generation in American football.
