France booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Morocco 2-0 at Gillette Stadium in the tournament’s first quarter-final.
Les Bleus controlled much of the first half and came close to taking the lead, but Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bono produced a brilliant save to deny Kylian Mbappe from the penalty spot and keep the scores level at the break.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 60th minute when Mbappe made amends for his earlier miss by finding the back of the net to hand France a deserved lead.
Just six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé doubled France’s advantage with a well-taken finish, putting Didier Deschamps’ side firmly in control of the contest.
Morocco pushed for a way back into the game but struggled to break down the disciplined French defence as Les Bleus comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure victory.
The win sends France into the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final between Spain and Belgium as they continue their pursuit of a third FIFA World Cup title.
