2026 U17 WWC: Jessica Appiah wins second Player of the Match award after victory over Argentina

Date:

Jessica Appiah has been named Player of the Match after her heroic performance in Ghana’s 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Argentina in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Appiah was the star for the Black Maidens, giving Ghana an early lead when she smashed home Cynthia Obinsrewuo’s square pass.

With Ghana reduced to 10 players after Hajara Adam’s dismissal with 13 minutes to go, the livewire forward kept Ghana’s attack alive before Argentina forced extra time and penalties.

And it was fitting that Appiah stepped up to convert the winning penalty after Oriana Gomez had missed for Argentina, sending Ghana into the quarter-finals.

The Player of the Match award crowns a memorable night for the forward, who showed composure, bravery and the true Ghanaian spirit when it mattered most.
