GH¢800,000 goods destroyed as fire engulfs Kia Rhino truck on Apedwa-Kibi Road

A Kia Rhino truck loaded with refrigerators, generators, gas burners and chairs has been gutted by fire at Amanfrom on the Apedwa-Kibi road in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, with the estimated loss put at GH¢800,000.

According to a Facebook post by the Ghana National Fire Service, the Kibi Fire Station received the distress call at 0314 hours and dispatched a crew led by ADO II Michael Kwakye.

The crew arrived at 0332 hours to find the truck, registered GE 4273-26, fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters deployed two hose lines with foam, bringing the blaze under control at 0400 hours before extinguishing it completely at 0428 hours.

The driver reportedly said he and two other occupants were travelling from Tema towards Kumasi when they stopped to rest and fell asleep. They were awakened by passers-by who alerted them to the fire and managed to escape through the windscreen.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, while the estimated financial loss stands at GH¢800,000.
