“I DON’T NEED A CERTIFICATE, I NEED POWER SO DON’T ASK ABOUT MY CERTIFICATE’ — Chairman Wontumi Fires Back At Critics

Date:

Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has responded to critics questioning his academic qualifications as he vies for the party’s national chairmanship position.

In a passionate speech, Wontumi made it clear that he is running on experience, grassroots connection, and the ability to deliver votes, not paper qualifications.
“Stop asking for my certificate. It’s power that I want, not a certificate,” he declared. “I’ve already told you I don’t have it. It’s still pending. If you like, go and ask for it yourself.”
Wontumi argued that understanding the grassroots is more important than holding prestigious degrees.
“I understand the grassroots language because I am grassroots. It’s the grassroots that wins power,” he said.

He outlined his vision for the party if elected, promising to move from constituency to constituency, solving problems at the local level rather than sitting in a comfort zone in Accra.
He emphasized his experience as a former constituency chairman and current regional chairman as proof that he knows what it takes to win elections.

“I’ve held our stronghold for three consecutive terms. That means I know something,” he added.
Wontumi also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becomes president in 2028, describing his potential election as national chairman as the gateway to that victory.
“If you elect me, I will serve you. I won’t come to be served,” he promised.
His remarks have sparked both support and criticism, with some praising his grassroots appeal and others questioning his focus on formal education.

Either way, Wontumi has made his position clear: he’s here for the people, not the paperwork.
