BLACK STARS ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL STAFF GET NO SALARY, ONLY WORLD CUP ALLOWANCES – Sports Minister

Date:

Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams has confirmed that the five newly appointed members of the Black Stars’ technical team will not receive monthly salaries ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) expanded the backroom staff with Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren as assistant coaches, Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso as analyst, Carlos Lozano Romero as psychologist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi as performance coach. This short-term setup targets Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Kofi Adams stressed the no-salary policy while outlining benefits. “None of them will be on any salary. None of them is on a salary, but they will benefit from some of the allowances that are paid to the team, and these additions are just for the World Cup,” he said.

He detailed further perks, excluding full pay. “After the World Cup, the contract arrangement ends, so they will benefit from some money, including maybe the appearance fees that are paid, but they will not get 100% of their appearance fees. Of course, they will also benefit from the winning bonuses… and then, of course, the per diems,” he added.

Ghana sits in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia, facing Panama on June 17, England on June 23, and Croatia on June 27. After group-stage exits in 2014 (Brazil) and 2022 (Qatar), the four-time African champions aim higher, basing at Bryant University in the USA.

This lean staffing model sparks debate on costs amid past salary rows, but Adams frames it as focused World Cup prep for the Black Stars’ redemption quest.
